The nominal size of the pipe tap corresponds to the size of the pipe fitting it is intended to tap rather than the actual dimensions of the tap itself. The threads taper at a rate of 3 4 of an inch per foot and each pipe tap is equipped with a thread chamfer measuring between 2-1 2 to 3-1 2 inches. For NPT threads it is essential to use a sealing agent such as Teflon tape or pipe compound. The uncoated tools consist solely of the base substrate lacking any additional treatments or coatings making them suitable for a broad spectrum of applications. Featuring a round shape with a square end shank these straight flute tools are designed to allow chips to accumulate in the flutes during cutting making them ideal for shallow cuts.
